Patna: Posters appeared at major intersections in Patna on Sunday announcing the supposed political retirement of Prashant Kishor, the strategist whose newly formed party suffered a humiliating defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections.
Kishor’s party, which had once projected itself as a contender for a landslide victory, failed to secure a single seat. Nearly 98% of its candidates lost their deposits, highlighting the scale of the electoral setback.
The posters, attributed to women’s group Nari Shakti, featured a photograph of Kishor alongside the message: “Prashant Kishor has retired from politics if JD(U) wins more than 25 seats in the elections!”
The statement referenced Kishor’s own prediction before the elections, in which he said that the Janata Dal (United) would win no more than 25 seats. “If JD(U) wins more than 25 seats, I will retire from politics,” Kishore had told reporters.
In the final tally, the JD(U) secured 85 seats, a commanding majority that allows it to form the next state government. The posters have been interpreted as a tongue-in-cheek reminder of Kishore’s prediction and the party’s dramatic electoral failure.
