Patna: Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is set to begin a five-day visit to Bihar from August 10, in what the party has termed a campaign to fight for citizens’ rights and challenge alleged misconduct by the Election Commission.
According to Bihar Congress State President Rajesh Ram, the tour is expected to begin either from Kaimur or Sasaram, with a detailed route still under preparation. The campaign, involving multiple leaders from the INDIA alliance, aims to raise public awareness around the issue of electoral integrity, which the party says is under threat due to recent actions by the Commission.
“This August will be the month of fighting for people’s rights,” Ram said, adding that the alliance will hold major programs across all nine divisions of the state and engage directly with local communities.
Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming tour marks his seventh visit to Bihar this year. His previous visits included attending the Constitution Protection Conference in Patna and Rajgir, commemorating the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Jaglal Chaudhary, holding student dialogues in Darbhanga, and supporting the Bihar bandh protest in July.
The Congress party said the tour also serves as a challenge to what it calls the “double-engine government,” referring to the BJP-led administrations at both the central and state levels. “This time, we will demand answers,” Ram said following a three-hour INDIA alliance meeting in Patna.
