Muzaffarpur: A complaint has been lodged against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a Muzaffarpur court, accusing him of making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chhath festival during an election rally in Bihar.
The complaint, filed by advocate Sudhir Ojha, alleges that Gandhi’s comments, made on October 29 during a public meeting in Sakara, Muzaffarpur, have hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and defamed the prime minister. Political tensions in the state have been rising ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, with leaders from both ruling and opposition parties trading increasingly sharp barbs.
According to the complaint, Gandhi told the crowd that Prime Minister Modi “would do anything to win elections,” adding, “If you ask him to dance before the elections, he will come on stage and start dancing. He will not be seen after the elections.” He also allegedly described Modi’s conduct during the Chhath festival as “a drama.”
Ojha claims that these statements were intended to insult both the prime minister and the nation, and have caused offence to devotees of the Chhath festival, one of Bihar’s most revered celebrations. The complainant has sought legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) and has requested that Gandhi be arrested.
The court is expected to take up the matter in the coming days. Neither Rahul Gandhi nor the Congress party has yet issued a statement in response to the complaint.
