Patna: A voter rights march in Patna was partially halted on Monday when authorities erected barricades at Dak Bungalow square, preventing participants from proceeding further. The march, which began at Gandhi Maidan, has been named “Gandhi se Ambedkar” and is set to conclude near the Ambedkar statue at Patna High Court, roughly four kilometres away.
Rahul Gandhi and Bihar leader Tejashwi Yadav, alongside CPI(ML) representatives, reached the temporary stage at Dakbungla square, where the crowd was stopped. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, however, did not attend the event.
Ahead of the march, Gandhi garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Maidan. The procession included prominent political figures such as TMC MP Yusuf Pathan, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut, NCP’s Supriya Sule, KC Venugopal, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Telangana leader Revanth Reddy, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, and Karnataka Deputy CM D. Shiv Kumar.
Authorities cited security reasons for the barricades, which prevented workers and participants from advancing beyond Dakbungla square.
