Patna: Indian Railways has extended the operational period of 10 pairs of summer special trains running between Bihar, Delhi and Jharkhand in view of increased passenger traffic and the ongoing Sawan pilgrimage season.

The decision will keep the special services operational through August and September 2026, offering additional travel options on several busy routes connecting north Bihar and Jharkhand with the national capital.

Key routes extended

According to railway officials, the extended services include trains operating between Barauni and New Delhi, Darbhanga and New Delhi, Purnea Court and Anand Vihar Terminal, Saharsa and Anand Vihar Terminal besides, Dhanbad and Shakur Basti.

The additional trips are expected to ease crowding on regular trains and improve seat availability during the peak travel period.

Barauni and Darbhanga services

Train No. 02563/02564 Barauni–New Delhi Daily Special will continue to operate until August 31, 2026, while train No. 02569/02570 Darbhanga–New Delhi daily special has been extended until September 1.

Railways have also scheduled additional trips for the Purnea Court–Anand Vihar Terminal and Saharsa–Anand Vihar Terminal special trains. The Dhanbad–Shakur Basti special will continue to run under the extended schedule.

Extension aimed at managing Sawan rush

Railway authorities said the extension has been approved to accommodate higher passenger demand during the Sawan month, when large numbers of devotees from Bihar and Jharkhand travel to religious destinations across northern India.

The additional services are also expected to reduce pressure on regular trains ahead of the upcoming festive travel season.

Timings and stoppages unchanged

Railway officials said there will be no changes to the existing routes, stoppages or scheduled timings of the extended services.

Coach composition and other operational arrangements will remain unchanged, with all trains operating according to the existing timetable.
