Patna: Building Construction Minister Leshi Singh reviewed the progress of projects being executed by various building divisions under the Patna sub-division and the Infrastructure Building Division, directing officials to ensure timely completion and maintain construction quality standards.
The review meeting was held at Vishveshvaraiya Bhawan in Patna and was attended by senior officials of the Building Construction Department, including Secretary Pranav Kumar, along with engineers and departmental representatives.
The meeting assessed the physical progress of projects undertaken for several state government departments, including the Law Department, Rural Development Department, SC & ST Welfare Department, Backward and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Department, Home (Prisons) Department and the General Administration Department.
Focus on Major Infrastructure Projects
Officials presented updates on key infrastructure projects, including the Rajgir Cricket Stadium and the APJ Abdul Kalam Science City.
According to the department, construction work on three spectator stands at the Rajgir Cricket Stadium is underway, with the structural work of one stand already completed. Officials informed the minister that the remaining work is targeted for completion by December 2026.
Construction of two halls and a velodrome within the Rajgir Sports Complex is also progressing. At Science City, design work for exhibits in the Sustainable Planet, Astronomy and Space, and Body and Mind galleries under Phase-II is currently underway.
The department further reported that conservation work at Patna Museum is advancing steadily.
Review of Educational and Judicial Infrastructure
The minister also reviewed progress on educational institutions and judicial infrastructure projects across the state.
At the College of Agricultural Biotechnology in Sabour, Bhagalpur, structural and brickwork for the G+3 academic and administrative building, along with boys’ and girls’ hostels, has been completed. Plastering and finishing work is currently in progress.
At the Civil Court complex in Biharsharif, Nalanda, structural and plastering work for the eight-court building, amenity block and lock-up building has been completed, with finishing work underway.
Officials informed the meeting that construction work at Bihar Engineering University is at an advanced stage. Residential schools with a capacity of 720 students each in Phulwari Sharif and Rajgir are also nearing completion.
Fire Safety Works Prioritised
The review also covered ongoing works related to the Human Rights Building, Jeevika Headquarters, AG Office, hostels, the digital museum at the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Vikas Bhawan, Soochna Bhawan and fire safety installations at the Main Secretariat.
The minister and the department secretary directed engineers to prioritise fire safety installations and expedite testing and commissioning of smoke detectors, water tanks, pump houses and fire sprinkler systems.
Pranav Kumar instructed officials to complete fire safety-related works on priority to strengthen safety measures in government buildings.
Warning Against Delays and Poor Quality
Expressing concern over delays in some projects, the minister directed officials to remove implementation hurdles and accelerate pending works.
Leshi Singh emphasised that all projects must be completed within the prescribed timelines and warned that any compromise in construction quality would not be tolerated.
She stated that strict action would be taken against engineers and contractors if negligence or quality-related deficiencies are found during project execution. Officials were also instructed to maintain close supervision of construction works to ensure compliance with quality standards and deadlines.
