Patna: A police sub-inspector posted in Bihar’s Nalanda district has been arrested by the state Vigilance Bureau after he was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 90,000 during a trap operation in Rajgir.
Devkant Kumar, who was stationed at Rajgir police station, was detained on Monday near Hotel Kaushalendra Palace on the Rajgir–Giriyak road, officials said. The arrest was made on the spot as he allegedly accepted the cash from a complainant in a pre-planned operation.
According to the Vigilance Bureau, the action followed a complaint filed by Ravi Shankar, a resident of Nalanda Mor, who alleged that the officer had demanded money in exchange for forwarding a case diary and an arms report to court in a case registered at Rajgir police station.
After preliminary verification, the bureau registered a first information report (FIR) and set up a special trap team led by deputy superintendent of police Shriram Chaudhary.
Officials said the accused was intercepted while taking the bribe. He is currently being questioned by investigators and is expected to be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna. Further investigation is under way.
