Patna: A major action was carried out on Wednesday to deal with the long-standing problems of traffic jams and roadside encroachments in Patna’s Rajiv Nagar area. Teams from the police and district administration conducted a full-day drive from Rajiv Nagar Dhala to Road 18 in the busy market region. Illegal stalls and structures placed on footpaths and along the road were removed to free up movement space for commuters.
To improve traffic flow further, the stretch between Rajiv Nagar Dhala and the market was converted into a one-way route on a trial basis. The road is among the most crowded parts of the locality, often witnessing long queues of vehicles due to unorganised parking and street vending. Officials noted that the one-way system was introduced after several complaints were received over the months from residents and daily travellers.
The drive was overseen by senior officials, including the Patna DM, SSP, Traffic SP, the local police station and the Municipal Corporation. Hundreds of officers and workers remained present throughout the day. Many vendors and shopkeepers blocking footpaths were instructed to clear the space immediately and warned of legal action if they repeat the violation. The authorities emphasised that the campaign aims to keep the area permanently free from congestion.
Police forces were posted at key intersections such as the Rajiv Nagar Zero Number Drain and the central crossing of the market. E-rickshaw drivers were asked to follow a disciplined parking system on the sides of the road. With the enforcement of the one-way trial and round-the-clock monitoring, there were no traffic jams in the Rajiv Nagar area throughout the day. Vehicles moved in one lane, and police continued diverting anyone attempting to enter from the wrong direction.
