Raxaul/Patna : Police have seized a large consignment of 28,085 banned narcotic injections in Raxaul, East Champaran, and arrested two people, including a woman, in connection with the alleged drug trade.
The action was carried out in the India-Nepal border area after police received information that banned narcotic injections were allegedly being stored, sold and smuggled from a house in the area.
Two Alleged Smugglers Arrested
The arrested accused have been identified as Poonam Devi and Sajjan Paswan.
According to police, information was received that the alleged purchase, sale and smuggling of banned narcotic injections was being carried out from Sajjan Paswan’s house.
Acting on the information, a police team conducted a raid at the premises.
28,085 Injections Recovered
During the search, police recovered a total of 28,085 banned narcotic injections.
The large quantity of suspected narcotic medication led to the arrest of both accused persons. Police are now examining the seized consignment as part of the investigation.
The recovery has also prompted investigators to look into the source of the injections and their intended destination.
Police Probe Source and Supply Chain
Raxaul SDPO Manish Anand said police are conducting a continuous campaign against the illegal drug trade.
Along with action against the sale and trafficking of narcotic substances, police are investigating the wider network allegedly involved in supplying banned medicines.
Investigators are trying to determine where the injections were sourced from and who they were intended to be supplied to in Raxaul and surrounding areas.
Investigation May Lead to More Arrests
Police are questioning the two arrested accused to establish the links of the alleged supply network.
Investigators are also examining whether other people were involved in procuring, transporting or distributing the injections. Further action against other suspected members of the network may follow based on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
Border Area Under Security Watch
Raxaul’s location along the India-Nepal border makes it an important transit point, and security agencies remain alert to illegal activities, including drug trafficking.
The seizure of such a large quantity of banned narcotic injections has renewed attention on the possible movement of pharmaceutical and narcotic substances through the border region.
Police said the investigation is continuing and further details will emerge as the supply chain is traced.
