Deoghar: Renowned ophthalmologist Dr. N.D. Mishra, associated with Baijnath Shankar Netralaya in Deoghar, has formally stepped into politics. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj party has nominated him as its candidate from the Jhajja Assembly constituency for the upcoming Bihar elections.
Dr. Mishra, who was honoured with the “Economist of the Year 2023–24” award for his contributions to ophthalmology, is widely recognized for transforming medical service into a tool for social change.
Recognition Through Social Service
Over the years, Dr. Mishra has conducted extensive medical outreach programmes across India. During the Prayagraj Mahakumbh, he and his team examined the eyes of more than one million people and distributed free spectacles to over 3 lakh beneficiaries. He also organized multiple free health camps in Magdiha village, ensuring access to medical care for underprivileged communities.
His work at Baijnath Shankar Netralaya in Deoghar has earned him a reputation as a compassionate doctor committed to service beyond profit.
Focus on Employment, Migration, and Agriculture
Jhajja, a region grappling with unemployment, migration, and an agricultural crisis, has become a focal point for Jan Suraaj’s new strategy of fielding fresh, socially active faces. The party hopes Dr. Mishra’s grassroots connection and public trust will translate into electoral strength.
Speaking after receiving the party ticket, Dr. Mishra said, “I have been working with people through social service for many years. If the public reposes their trust in me, I will take concrete steps to create employment opportunities, prevent migration, and establish cold storage facilities for farmers in Jhajja.”
New Energy in Local Politics
Dr. Mishra’s entry into the political arena has generated fresh excitement in local politics. His candidature brings a blend of medical service, social commitment, and development-oriented vision to the election narrative.
Observers say his presence could shift the campaign’s focus toward health, employment, and rural development, potentially redefining the electoral dynamics in Jhajja.
