Patna: Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has rejected opposition claims that Bihar is facing a shortage of funds, saying the state government continues to invest in development projects and welfare programmes without financial constraints.
Speaking on the government’s spending priorities, Chaudhary said Bihar has sufficient resources to implement social security schemes while continuing investments in infrastructure and public services.
Pension Payments Cited As Evidence
Chaudhary said the government transferred pension benefits to around 9.8 million beneficiaries on July 10 under its social security programmes.
According to him, the timely transfer of pensions demonstrates the state’s financial capacity and commitment to supporting vulnerable sections of society. He added that pensions for senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities are being disbursed regularly.
Government Highlights Welfare Measures
The Deputy Chief Minister said the state government is working to expand the reach of social security schemes and ensure that financial assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries through transparent mechanisms.
He said the government’s priority is to provide support to economically vulnerable households while strengthening welfare delivery.
Free Electricity Scheme
Referring to the state’s electricity policy, Chaudhary said the government is providing up to 125 units of free electricity to domestic consumers.
He claimed that the scheme has reduced electricity bills to zero for nearly 90% of consumers in the state, providing financial relief and helping households reduce their monthly expenses.
Focus On Development
Chaudhary said the government continues to prioritise investment in roads, electricity, education, healthcare and social security.
He said the administration’s focus is on implementing schemes effectively and ensuring that their benefits reach citizens directly.
Responds To Opposition Criticism
Responding to criticism from the opposition, Chaudhary said claims that Bihar lacks financial resources are inconsistent with the government’s ongoing expenditure on welfare programmes and public services.
He said the state would continue to prioritise public welfare and development, adding that government policies are aimed at improving the quality of life of residents across Bihar.
