Patna: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has said that no evidence was found linking Sanjeev Kumar, alias Sanjeev Mukhiya, to the NEET (UG) 2024 question paper theft case. The agency said it did not file a charge sheet against him after completing its investigation.
The clarification comes amid claims that Mukhiya’s name was deliberately omitted from the charge sheet. The CBI said this assertion is factually incorrect and had already been clarified in 2024.
Bihar Police Initially Named Mukhiya
According to the CBI, the Bihar Police had initially registered the case relating to the theft of the NEET (UG) 2024 question papers. During the preliminary investigation, Sanjeev Mukhiya came under suspicion because his name had surfaced in previous examination paper leak cases.
Based on those suspicions, the Bihar Police named him as an accused in the First Information Report (FIR). The case was later transferred to the CBI for further investigation.
CBI Files Charge Sheets Against 45 Accused
The CBI said its detailed investigation identified the individuals involved in stealing and distributing the question papers, as well as those who benefited from the leak.
Following the investigation, the agency filed multiple charge sheets against 45 accused before the competent court in Patna.
The agency said it found no evidence indicating that Sanjeev Mukhiya played any role in the theft or distribution of the question papers.
Mukhiya Interrogated After Arrest
The CBI said Mukhiya was absconding while the investigation was underway. He was later arrested by the Bihar Police in connection with other criminal cases.
As he had also been named in the FIR related to the NEET-UG 2024 case, the CBI took him into police custody for questioning. However, the agency said interrogation and further investigation did not establish his involvement in the paper leak.
Consequently, the CBI did not include his name in the charge sheet for the NEET-UG 2024 case. Although he was later granted bail in this matter, he remained in judicial custody in connection with other cases registered by the Bihar Police.
CBI Rejects Allegations of Omission
The CBI said it had identified all those involved in the NEET (UG) 2024 question paper theft conspiracy through a comprehensive investigation and had ensured that those responsible were brought within the due process of law.
The agency added that its position regarding Sanjeev Mukhiya had already been made clear in 2024, and reiterated that allegations claiming his name was intentionally left out of the charge sheet are not supported by the findings of its investigation.
