Sasaram: A prisoner brought to Sasaram civil court for a hearing escaped from police custody on Monday evening while still wearing handcuffs. The man, identified as Nilesh Kumar, was caught the next morning hiding in his own house.
Police said Kumar was brought from Dehri Mufassil police station under the Excise Act. Before his hearing started, he ran away from near the court premises. The sudden escape shocked the police personnel present, and a search began in different parts of Sasaram.
Despite the search, he could not be found on Monday. On Tuesday morning, police traced him to his home in Bankod village and arrested him again. The entire incident took place within 12 hours.
This is the fourth time in the past three months that a prisoner has escaped from police custody in the area. The incident has raised questions about the security arrangements of the police.
