Patna: The Patna district administration has ordered the closure of all government and private schools up to Class 5 until June 2 in view of rising temperatures and ongoing heatwave conditions across the district.
The revised order, issued by District Magistrate Dr Tyagarajan SM on May 29, stated that academic activities from pre-school to Class 5 will remain suspended as a precautionary measure to protect children from extreme weather conditions.
Anganwadi Centres Exempted
In a modification to the earlier directive, the administration has allowed Anganwadi centres to function until 10 AM.
According to the order, the exemption has been granted to ensure that children in the 3–6 age group continue to receive nutritional support and essential services provided through Anganwadi centres.
Officials said the decision was taken keeping in mind the welfare of vulnerable children who depend on the centres for regular meals and childcare support.
Heatwave Concerns Prompt Action
The district administration noted that high temperatures during afternoon hours could pose serious health risks to children.
Authorities said the closure of schools was intended to minimise exposure to extreme heat and prevent heat-related illnesses among students.
Parents have also been advised to keep children indoors during peak daytime hours and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
Weather Department Issues Alert
Several districts across Bihar, including Patna, have witnessed a steady rise in temperatures over the past few days.
The Meteorological Department has issued advisories urging residents to remain cautious and take preventive measures during the heatwave period.
Administrative authorities in multiple districts have also been reviewing school timings and holiday schedules in response to the prevailing weather conditions.
