Siwan: A sub-inspector posted at Siswan police station in Bihar’s Siwan district has been arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 40,000. The arrest was made by the state vigilance department after the officer was caught red-handed while accepting the money. The bribe was reportedly demanded in exchange for removing a person’s name from a police case related to a land dispute.
Officials said the matter came to light when the affected person filed a complaint with the vigilance department. The complainant claimed that the sub-inspector, identified as Kanhaiya Singh, had been pressuring him to pay money to “settle” the case. After checking the details of the complaint and finding it to be genuine, the vigilance team decided to take action.
A trap was then planned to catch the officer in the act. The vigilance team fixed a meeting point at a tea stall near Maharana Pratap Chowk, located in the Siswan police station area. When the sub-inspector arrived and allegedly accepted the bribe amount, the team immediately intervened and arrested him. The sudden arrest created a sense of shock and curiosity among people present at the spot.
After completing the required legal procedures, the vigilance officials took the arrested sub-inspector to Patna for further investigation. Authorities said the case is being examined in detail to find out if there were earlier complaints against the officer or if others were involved. The incident has caused unease within the local police department and has once again raised questions about corruption and accountability in public services.
