Khagaria: Suman Shekhar, a young filmmaker from Khagaria in Bihar, has achieved remarkable success in Indian cinema. His short film Khwabida (Lost in Dreams) won the Best Romantic Film award at the sixth Mumba International Film Festival, held in Pune. The festival, organised in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation and the Films Division of India, featured a wide range of short and independent films from India and abroad. Other winners included Aname for Best Short Film, Operation Maa for Best Documentary, and Desi Oon for Best Animation.
Khwabida is a 15-minute short film directed by Prashant Bewar and Vishal. It stars Suman Shekhar and Namrata Sahni. The story, set mostly in a single room, is a sensitive and emotional love story. Audiences and critics have praised the performances of both actors, the touching dialogue, and the film’s cinematography. The short but powerful film has been recognised for telling a moving story about love in a simple and meaningful way.
Suman Shekhar comes from a creative family. He is the son of the late Kailash Jha Kinkar, a well-known writer from Khagaria. His elder brother, Shankaranand, is a popular young poet in the Hindi literary world. Suman has been active in theatre and film production in Delhi and now Mumbai for more than ten years. His work reflects a combination of literary skill and cinematic vision, helping him create films that connect with audiences.
Currently, four of Suman Shekhar’s films are being screened at film festivals in India and abroad. One of his earlier films, The Sadist, received praise at several Indian film festivals and was also screened in Germany. With Khwabida, Suman Shekhar has established himself as a filmmaker capable of creating sensitive, well-crafted films that are appreciated both in India and internationally.
