Patna: A simple routine day turned into a nightmare for a family in Masaurhi, near Patna, after a 17-year-old student went missing while going for his coaching classes. Rohit Sharma, an intermediate student and the only son of farmer Chintu Sharma, left his home on December 29 but never returned. More than a week has passed, yet there has been no clear information about his whereabouts, deepening the family’s fear and uncertainty.
Rohit’s family said he had left home as usual to attend his coaching class and showed no signs of distress. When he failed to return, the family immediately informed the Masaurhi police station and registered a missing person report on the same day. Despite this, they say there has been little visible progress in the case. Late on Sunday night, angry and worried family members gathered at the police station to protest, accusing the police of not taking the matter seriously enough.
According to Rohit’s father, there were no arguments or problems at home that could explain his sudden disappearance. He said Rohit was a quiet and focused student. CCTV footage later showed the teenager walking on a road, confirming that he had indeed left home, but after that, there were no further clues. Rohit’s mobile phone has been switched off since then, making it difficult for both the family and the police to track his movements.
The police have denied claims of negligence. Masaurhi police station in-charge Vivek Kumar Bharti said search operations are ongoing and raids are being carried out at possible locations. He added that the police are also trying to trace the boy through mobile phone records and other technical inputs. While officials say they are hopeful of finding a lead soon, Rohit’s family continues to wait in fear and frustration, hoping for his safe return and clear answers in a case that has shaken the local community.
