Ara: With Teej around the corner, the markets of Ara are buzzing with life. Shops are full of colourful sarees, shiny lehengas and festive clothes, and traders say business is booming. Embroidered lehengas, tusak sarees and silk fabrics are the most popular choices this year.
Young women are buying designer lehengas and light embroidery sarees, while married women are going for traditional Laxmipati and zari Banarasi sarees. Red, green and yellow – considered lucky for Teej – are in high demand. At the same time, pastel shades and floral prints are trending among younger customers.
Shopkeepers are using fun slogans to attract buyers. One trader joked that his slogan this year is “Remove all the fights between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law,” which made customers laugh while shopping. Sellers say fabrics like Dola Silk are selling more than ever because they are light, comfortable and perfect for festivals.
Cosmetic shops are also seeing good sales, with bangles, bindis, nail polish and sindoor in high demand. Women say Teej is not just about fasting and prayers but also about dressing up and celebrating with family. Traders are happy too, as the festive season has lifted business after months of slowdown. With bigger festivals like Durga Puja and Chhath coming soon, the shopping spirit in Ara is expected to grow even more.
