Patna: Tej Pratap Yadav, son of former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, has announced the formation of a new political party, Jan Shakti Janata Dal, ahead of the state assembly elections. The announcement was made on Friday via a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
In his post, Tej Pratap declared that the party is committed to the “overall development of Bihar” and aims to bring about a “complete change” in the state’s political system. He also signalled readiness for a long electoral battle to achieve these goals.
हमलोग बिहार के संपूर्ण विकास के लिए पूर्ण रूप से समर्पित और तत्पर हैं। हमारा मकसद बिहार में संपूर्ण बदलाव कर एक नई व्यवस्था का नव निर्माण करना है।

The party’s official poster, however, conspicuously omits the images of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, Tej Pratap’s parents and prominent figures in the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Instead, it features portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar, Ram Manohar Lohia, Jayaprakash Narayan, and Karpoori Thakur.
Beneath the party name, slogans emphasise “Social Justice,” “Social Rights,” and “Complete Change.” The election symbol is a blackboard, and the poster invites public engagement via a mobile number and social media handles. Its yellow and green colour scheme contrasts with the RJD’s signature green.
Tej Pratap’s political trajectory has been marked by tension within the family. Following a series of social media posts and photographs, he was expelled from the RJD, sparking speculation about his future in state politics. In recent months, he has often appeared in public wearing a yellow cap, a departure from the RJD’s traditional green.
The launch of Jan Shakti Janata Dal marks Tej Pratap’s formal entry into Bihar politics as a party leader in his own right, signalling a potentially turbulent phase for the state’s political landscape.
