Patna: Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has taken a swipe at Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, following the latter’s claim that his name had been removed from Bihar’s voter list. Samrat said it was “natural for Bihar to question Tejashwi’s eligibility” if he cannot even read and find his own name on the official record.
Tejashwi had publicly stated that his name was deleted and even used his EPIC number to check in front of journalists, which allegedly showed a “Record Not Found” message. He accused the Election Commission of bias and said if his name could be deleted, the names of lakhs of poor voters in Bihar were likely removed as well.
However, the state administration later confirmed Tejashwi’s name appears in the draft voter list. His name is reportedly listed at serial number 416, under polling station number 204 at the Library Building of Bihar Animal Science University, with a photograph.
Calling Tejashwi’s allegation “misleading, baseless, and defamatory,” Samrat defended the Election Commission, stating it had conducted a transparent revision of the electoral rolls. “We urge all political parties to engage in fact-based dialogue and respect democratic institutions,” he said.
