Patna: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has accused the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of electoral manipulation and issued a 100-day ultimatum to the Bihar government led by Nitish Kumar, signalling a return to his combative political style.
Speaking to reporters at Patna airport on Sunday afternoon after returning from a foreign trip with his family, Tejashwi claimed that the recent assembly elections were “rigged” and that the NDA had secured power through the misuse of money and state machinery. “Across the country, people are saying that in these elections, the people lost and the system won,” he said.
Tejashwi announced that the RJD would refrain from commenting on the government’s policies and decisions for the first 100 days of its tenure, describing this as an exercise in “positive politics”. However, he made it clear that the party would closely monitor the government’s actions during this period. The statement is widely being seen as a warning that the opposition will intensify its attack once the self-imposed deadline ends.

Launching a broader critique of the state government, Tejashwi said Bihar’s condition under what he described as the “double-engine government” was evident to all. He cited crime, corruption, bribery, unemployment-driven migration, weaknesses in education and healthcare, and failures in law and order as persistent issues.
He also urged the NDA to honour its election promises, including a pledge to provide Rs 2 lakh each to 2.5 crore women, create one crore jobs, and establish four to five large industries or factories in every district. “If Rs 150 crore could be distributed directly or indirectly in every assembly constituency before the elections, then the government must fulfil every promise made to the people after coming to power,” he said.
Tejashwi’s remarks came a day after RJD supremo Lalu Prasad returned to Patna from Delhi following cataract surgery. Lalu Prasad is also facing allegations in the land-for-jobs scam, which he has denied.
Tejashwi had been abroad during the winter session of the Bihar assembly and subsequently spent a week in Delhi. With both senior leaders now back in the state, party insiders suggest that efforts may soon begin to revive and strengthen the RJD’s organisational structure, which has been perceived as weakened in recent months.
Sources within the party said Tejashwi is likely to resume a statewide tour after Makar Sankranti, a move seen as part of a broader strategy to rebuild momentum and sharpen the opposition’s challenge to the Nitish Kumar government.
