Patna: Bihar opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for using what he described as an unusually aggressive tone during the state’s assembly election campaign. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Yadav said, “No Prime Minister has ever used such language as Narendra Modi is using.”
Yadav objected in particular to PM Modi’s remark that the opposition leader had “been declared the CM candidate by putting a gun to the Congress’s head.” He suggested that the Prime Minister’s comment may have been an attempt to justify the BJP’s treatment of its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), while contrasting this with the Grand Alliance, where he said decisions were made collectively and with respect for all parties.
“Whatever one thinks, that’s what comes out of one’s mouth,” Yadav said. “The Prime Minister is using the gun as an excuse to explain how he has treated NDA allies.”
The opposition leader also accused PM Modi of insulting Bihar. He claimed that while the Prime Minister highlights industry, IT parks, semiconductor zones, and factories in Gujarat, in Bihar he focuses on “guns and five kilograms of ration.” According to Yadav, neither PM Modi nor the NDA have any plan to generate employment or develop the state.
Yadav further argued that the BJP’s campaign signals it has no intention of making Chief Minister Nitish Kumar the face of the party in Bihar. Instead, he said, the BJP is using Kumar for electoral purposes, while acknowledging that the next government is likely to be led by the Grand Alliance. He noted that Kumar himself appears aware of this, citing the chief minister’s absence from PM Modi’s campaign rallies in the state.
