Patna: Patna Airport has commissioned its third aerobridge from today, marking a significant step towards modernising passenger experience at the city’s new terminal. The airport, which will eventually feature five aerobridges, currently has two in operation at departure gates nine and ten. The newly commissioned bridge now connects to gate 11, while the fourth and fifth aerobridges are complete and awaiting approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) before they can be opened to passengers.
Airport Director Chandra Pratap Dwivedi said the move was aimed at improving passenger convenience. “With the commissioning of the third aerobridge, passengers will no longer have to be transported by bus after disembarking,” he said. “This will save time and reduce discomfort, especially for elderly travellers, children, and those carrying luggage.”
The airport’s new terminal has the capacity to handle eight aircraft simultaneously. However, even with all five aerobridges operational, passengers from up to three aircraft at a time may still require bus transfers due to peak-time traffic. Previously, the old terminal could accommodate six aircraft at a time, and all passengers were transported by bus, often causing delays and inconvenience.
Aerobridges offer more than just operational efficiency. They allow passengers to move directly from aircraft to terminal through covered walkways, avoiding exposure to rain, sun, or cold. The move is part of a broader effort to equip Patna Airport with world-class facilities and to make travel faster, safer, and more comfortable for passengers.
“The commissioning of this aerobridge is an important step in utilising the terminal’s full capacity and enhancing the overall travel experience,” Dwivedi added.
