Patna: Indian Railways is preparing to start the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train on the Patna–Delhi route by the end of December, bringing good news to thousands of passengers who regularly travel between the two cities. This route is one of the busiest in the country, and people from Bihar often struggle to find comfortable long-distance travel options. With the introduction of this new train, the railways aim to make the journey faster, smoother and more convenient.
According to officials, the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat will run six days a week. Its timings will be similar to the Tejas Rajdhani, which already operates on this route. The train is expected to leave Patna in the evening and reach Delhi the next morning. In the return direction, too, it will follow a schedule that ensures passengers can travel at night and arrive at their destination by morning. Before the train begins regular service, the railways will conduct a trial run once the first manufacturing rack arrives from Bengaluru on 12 December.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper will have 16 coaches, providing a total of 827 berths across different categories. It will include 11 third-AC coaches, four second-AC coaches and one first-AC coach. Officials from the Danapur division have said that all preparations for the launch are expected to be completed by the end of the month. They also expect heavy passenger demand from the very beginning because this route serves many daily commuters, students and working professionals.
In addition to speed and capacity, the train will offer several modern amenities to improve the travel experience. These include automatic doors, bio-toilets, CCTV cameras and personal reading lights. The interiors have been designed to be more comfortable for long-distance journeys. The train can run at a speed of up to 160 km/h and will be fitted with advanced safety features such as armour technology and a crash-resistant structure. Railway authorities believe the new service will mark another important step toward modernising India’s long-distance rail travel.
