Patna/Lakhisarai: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for four major agricultural development projects across Lakhisarai district, aimed at advancing modern farming technologies, improving seed production, and expanding horticultural activities.
Speaking at the event, Sinha said the initiatives reflect the state government’s commitment to achieving the vision of “Self-reliant Agriculture, Prosperous Farmers.” “These projects will make Bihar a leader in modern agricultural technology, quality seed production, and horticulture development,” he said.
Among the key projects inaugurated was the Regional Office of the Pulse Development Center in Barhiya, which will focus on expanding pulse cultivation, distributing seeds, and providing training to farmers. Officials said the centre will help improve nutritional security and increase farmers’ income through higher productivity of pulse crops.
At the State Seed Multiplication Project in Halsi, Sinha inaugurated a state-of-the-art plug-type nursery, where plants will be cultivated in controlled conditions to produce high-quality seedlings for transplantation. The nursery is expected to help farmers achieve uniform crop growth and better yields.
On the same campus, a Tissue Culture Laboratory was launched to produce disease-free, high-quality plants and seeds. The facility aims to strengthen Bihar’s capacity for self-sufficient seed production using advanced biotechnology.
Sinha also inaugurated the Adarsh Horticulture Centre – Arid Horticulture at Halsi, which will focus on fruit cultivation, including mango, guava, amla, and plum. The centre will serve as a hub for plant production, farmer training, and horticultural demonstrations, promoting agricultural diversification and higher farm incomes.
In addition, the Deputy Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the renovation and modernisation of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee in Lakhisarai. The Rs 42 crore project aims to provide farmers with better facilities for marketing, storage, processing, and value addition.
District Magistrate Mithilesh Mishra, Agricultural Marketing Director Shailendra Kumar, and several senior officials, scientists, and progressive farmers attended the ceremony.
Sinha concluded by saying that these initiatives mark a significant milestone in Bihar’s agricultural transformation. “With modern technology and scientific farming practices, Bihar’s farmers will not just sustain themselves—they will lead India’s next wave of agricultural progress,” he said.
