Patna: Bihar government has approved a tea development scheme worth Rs 6.55 crore for Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar districts, Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said.
The scheme is aimed at expanding tea cultivation in the Seemanchal region and creating additional income and employment opportunities for farmers.
Focus On Agricultural Diversification
Sinha said the initiative would encourage farmers to take up tea cultivation as a high-value crop alongside traditional farming.
According to the minister, the climate and natural conditions of Seemanchal are favourable for tea cultivation. The government aims to use the region’s agricultural potential to strengthen farmers’ incomes and promote economic opportunities in rural areas.
The scheme is also expected to encourage more farmers to enter tea cultivation and support the development of agro-based entrepreneurship and local employment.
Government Push For Tea Cultivation
Sinha said the Bihar government is promoting new and profitable crops as part of its efforts to increase farmers’ income and strengthen the agricultural sector.
He said the tea development scheme would further establish Seemanchal as an emerging tea-producing region and contribute to agricultural diversification in the three districts.
The minister also directed departmental officials to implement the scheme transparently and within a defined timeframe. He said eligible farmers should receive the benefits promptly and the objectives of the scheme should be achieved effectively.
