Patna: Bihar deputy chief minister Vijay Sinha has been given a major new responsibility, taking charge of the urban development and housing department in addition to his existing portfolios. Sinha already heads important departments such as revenue and land reforms, and mines and geology. With this new role, he is now among the ministers handling the most influential departments in the state government.
The change follows the resignation of BJP leader Nitin Nabin from his ministerial position after he was appointed working president of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar. Nabin earlier handled the road construction and urban development departments. After his exit from the cabinet, the government moved to reassign responsibilities to ensure continuity in key areas.
Announcing the development on social media platform X, Sinha said he had officially taken charge of the urban development and housing department and held discussions with senior officials. He said he had begun work with a resolve to give a new direction to urban development, strengthen housing facilities and ensure the effective implementation of public welfare schemes.
The urban development department plays a vital role in city planning and basic services such as sanitation, drinking water and housing. With Sinha at the helm, the government is expected to place greater emphasis on urban schemes. Under the new departmental arrangement, the road construction department has been assigned to former Bihar BJP president and industry minister Dilip Jaiswal.
