Patna: As major festivals conclude for Sanatan Dharma followers, the wedding season is set to resume later this month. Auspicious dates for marriage will begin on November 18, marking the end of Chaturmas. However, couples planning winter weddings may find their choices limited: this year offers only 13 auspicious dates in November and December, according to traditional Hindu calendars.
The Banarasi calendar lists nine favourable dates in November and four in December. The Mithila calendar, followed widely in parts of Bihar, cites seven auspicious dates in November and three in December.
The total is fewer than last year’s 18 auspicious dates recorded across both systems. In 2022, the Banarasi calendar recorded 12 auspicious dates over the two months, while the Mithila calendar listed 13. By contrast, 2023 saw an unusually high count, with the Banarasi system noting 17 auspicious dates.
No auspicious period in January 2026
Astrologers say the trend of fluctuating dates will continue. Despite the end of Kharmas in January 2026, there will be no auspicious period for marriage that month due to the setting of Venus. The planet is scheduled to rise in the west at 6pm on February 1, after which weddings may resume.
‘Planetary harmony essential for marriage’
Astrologer, said planetary auspiciousness remains central to the timing of weddings. “Marriage is considered the most sacred bond, and therefore choosing an auspicious muhurat is essential,” he said. According to him, favourable alignments of Jupiter, Venus and the Sun are necessary, with the conjunction of the Sun and Jupiter regarded as particularly auspicious.
