Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain in 20 districts of Bihar on Saturday. Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by lightning, is expected in some parts over the next 24 hours.
In the remaining districts, the weather is likely to stay dry, but residents may face uncomfortable humid heat.
Meanwhile, the flood situation continues to remain critical in Kosi, Seemanchal, and several parts of East Bihar. The water level in the Ganga and Kosi rivers is steadily rising, forcing authorities to open all 109 gates of the Farakka Barrage.
According to IMD, moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal are bringing dense cloud cover to North and East Bihar. Thunderstorms with rain are expected in these regions within the next 24 to 48 hours. Despite recent showers, the state has recorded 23 percent below-average rainfall this season. Against a normal of 647 mm, Bihar has received only 492 mm of rainfall so far.
Monsoon Outlook for Bihar
The IMD has forecast that monsoon activity will continue in Bihar for the next two days. Wind speeds may reach 30–40 kmph in isolated areas, which the department has described as normal monsoon behavior.
However, temperatures across most districts may rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius over the next three days, increasing the discomfort level for residents.
Gandak Water Level Rises, Bridge Washed Away in Muzaffarpur
Heavy rainfall in Nepal’s Terai region has led to a sharp rise in the Gandak river. On Friday morning, 1.37 lakh cusecs of water was released from the Valmikinagar Gandak Barrage. Additionally, the release of 1.69 lakh cusecs from Devghat in Nepal is expected to affect low-lying areas of Bihar.
In Muzaffarpur, the diversion of a bridge under construction on the old Bagmati river was washed away, impacting nearly 25,000 people. The district administration has increased vigilance in vulnerable areas.
Patna Weather Update
In the state capital, skies remain mostly clear today, with mild sunlight and high humidity making conditions uncomfortable. The chances of rainfall in Patna are low, though some areas may see partial cloud cover.
The IMD has predicted similar weather in Patna for the next two to three days. Slightly stronger winds in the evenings may provide some relief from the humid conditions.
