Patna: Several districts across Bihar witnessed a sudden shift in weather on Monday, as bright morning sunshine gave way to intense rainfall in parts of the state, including Patna, Nalanda and Araria. Cloud cover was also reported over Kishanganj and Jamui, marking a stark change in conditions.
Amid the turbulent weather, five people lost their lives after being struck by lightning in separate incidents across Bhojpur, Buxar and Nalanda districts.
In Gaya district on Sunday, rising waters in the Lagurahi Waterfall at Imamganj created a perilous situation when six girls were swept away by the strong current. Fortunately, all were rescued safely.
Further south in Sasaram, a six-year-old boy narrowly escaped tragedy after falling into an open drain amid waterlogging caused by heavy rain while he was returning home from school. Bystanders quickly intervened to save the child, and video footage of the incident has since emerged.
The Patna Meteorological Centre has forecast rainfall across the entire state on Monday, issuing an orange alert for heavy rain in 19 districts, while predicting light to moderate showers for the remaining areas.
Officials also warned of a potential drop in maximum temperatures by two to four degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, though the relief from oppressive humidity is expected to be limited.
