Patna: A Bihar bureaucrat has resigned from service, triggering speculation that he may contest the upcoming assembly elections as parties intensify preparations across the state.
Dinesh Kumar Rai, an IAS officer and Secretary in the Revenue and Land Reforms Department, submitted his resignation on June 13, which was formally accepted on July 14. His retirement took effect the following day, according to official sources.
Rai, who previously served as personal secretary to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for nine years and held the post of District Magistrate in West Champaran for two years, is now believed to be considering a political plunge.
Sources indicate that Rai is eyeing the Kargahar assembly constituency in Rohtas district. Last month, a public felicitation was organised in Kushhi village, Kargahar, to celebrate his promotion, reportedly drawing a crowd of over 10,000 people.
Political analysts suggest Rai’s candidacy could alter the electoral dynamics in Kargahar. “Given his administrative track record, local popularity and acceptance across caste lines, Rai could not only dislodge the Congress from the seat but also secure a comfortable margin for his prospective party,” one observer said.
Rai’s reputation for administrative efficiency and grassroots outreach has bolstered speculation that he might receive the backing of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, should he choose to contest.
