Motihari: India-Nepal border has been sealed from Thursday for two days due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bihar. He will address a public meeting at Gandhi Maidan in Motihari on 18 July. During this time, all private and commercial vehicles have been banned from crossing the border. Even normal movement of people will be restricted. Officials said that only in special situations, people can cross the border after showing valid identity proof.
Security has been tightened because the Prime Minister will also do a roadshow in Motihari after his rally. To ensure safety, security agencies are checking every person entering the area. The Anti-Terrorism Squad and Special Branch units have been deployed at the border. Top officials of SPG and Bihar police are already in Motihari to supervise preparations.
On Wednesday, an army helicopter conducted an aerial survey of Gandhi Maidan and nearby places. A mock drill will take place on 17 July to check the final security arrangements. All police stations in East Champaran district have been put on alert. Dog squads and bomb disposal teams are checking every corner of the venue. Soldiers have been deployed at the helipads and assembly halls too.
East Central Railway General Manager Chhatrasal Singh also visited Bapudham Railway Station on Wednesday along with senior railway officials. They went straight to Gandhi Maidan to check preparations. It is expected that PM Modi will announce many new railway projects for Bihar from this venue. The district administration and BJP workers are working day and night to finalise all preparations before his arrival.
