Patna: The monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly concluded in chaos, marked by sharp exchanges between opposition and ruling party leaders. Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Rabri Devi, launched a scathing attack on Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, alleging his involvement in past misconduct and accusing the BJP-JD(U) alliance of suppressing dissent and overseeing a string of scams.
Speaking to reporters outside the House, Rabri Devi claimed that Choudhary, in his youth, was known for troubling women on Boring Road in Patna. “He used to tease girls and act like a goon. Now he accuses others of hooliganism,” she said, questioning the Deputy CM’s moral authority.
Rabri also targeted the central government over financial transparency, referencing the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. “The government has not explained the expenditure of Rs 71,000 crore. This isn’t new. Since Narendra Modi came to power at the Centre and Nitish Kumar in Bihar, scams have become routine. Yet, the government remains silent. But the people of Bihar are watching,” she said.
The RJD leader further accused the Centre of selling national assets. “Since 2014, Modi has mortgaged the country. Whatever could be sold has been sold, and now they’re selling what’s left,” she added.
Amid controversy over a reported revision in Bihar’s electoral roll, Rabri claimed that over 60 lakh voters’ names had been removed, calling it an attack on democracy. “More than 4 crore people are out of the list. How will they vote? This is BJP’s way of snatching voting rights. It’s a black chapter for Bihar,” she said, justifying the opposition’s decision to wear black in protest.
She also reiterated her earlier concerns about her son, Tejashwi Yadav’s safety. “There have been four attempts on Tejashwi’s life. He’s a child and we know who’s behind it. This is a conspiracy by the BJP-JDU,” she alleged.
