Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hoisted the national flag at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Independence Day, marking the occasion with a series of announcements and public displays celebrating the state’s development initiatives. Thirteen tableaux representing various government departments were showcased, offering a visual narrative of Bihar’s social and economic progress. Among them was a tableau highlighting the recently launched scheme providing 125 units of free electricity to residents.
The tableaux, each themed around key government programmes, conveyed messages of empowerment, modernization, and growth. The Social Welfare Department showcased its expanded social security pension schemes, while the Home Department presented a tableau on the modernisation of the Bihar Fire Service.

The Industry Department highlighted the state’s efforts to take local enterprises global, with a tableau themed “Bihar’s Global Export: Local to Global”. The Sports Department celebrated athletic achievement under the banner “Colors of Sports, Bihar Ke Sang”, and the Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department focused on the “Mukhyamantri Neera Samvardhan Yojana”.

Agriculture initiatives were represented through a tableau promoting Bihar’s produce with the theme “A Dish from Bihar in Every Indian’s Plate”. The Art, Culture and Youth Department highlighted the “Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum cum Smriti Stupa, Vaishali”, while the Law Department promoted girls’ education with the message “Give Education, Not Marriage, Give Open Sky to the Daughter”.

The Panchayat Raj Department showcased its “Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivaah Mandap Yojana”, detailing government-supported marriage halls for daughters, and the Rural Development Department highlighted the “Jeevika Women’s Bank” initiative, emphasising women’s empowerment and self-reliance. Finally, the Education Department’s tableau, themed “Padhta Bihar, Badhta Bihar, Sapne Sach Karta Bihar”, celebrated the state’s commitment to nurturing young minds.
