Patna: Construction of Bihar’s first modern samshan ghat is underway at Bans Ghat in Patna, where Moksha and Baikunth gates made of Dholpur stone will rise prominently, each bearing a bronze Om symbol. The Moksha gate alone will stand 46.58 feet high, adding a monumental presence to the site.
Built at a cost of Rs 89.40 crore, the samshan ghat spans 4.5 acres—three times larger than the previous facility. The project is part of the Patna Smart City initiative and will be operated by the Isha Foundation. Facilities include four electric cremation ovens, two ponds with fountains for ash immersion and bathing, waiting halls, prayer and worship rooms, a temple, an administrative block, a canteen and staff quarters. Six toilet blocks, changing rooms, a mortuary, parking areas, internal roads and a public announcement system are also being created.
A Shiva statue will be installed within the complex, further enhancing its spiritual atmosphere.
