Patna: The monsoon has once again gained momentum in Bihar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing alerts for 18 districts on Saturday. An orange alert has been declared for five districts likely to witness heavy rainfall, while a yellow alert has been issued for 13 districts where light to moderate showers are expected.
According to the Meteorological Center, moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and the monsoon trough line passing through parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are fueling the rainfall activity. Officials have predicted widespread rain across the state over the next five days.
On Friday, several districts including Patna, Ara, Jamui, Supaul, and Aurangabad experienced heavy rainfall. In the state capital, the weather changed dramatically after noon, bringing heavy showers that provided much-needed relief from the sweltering humidity. Nalanda, meanwhile, recorded light drizzle.
Bhojpur Records Highest Rainfall in 24 Hours
In the past 24 hours, Bhojpur district received the highest rainfall of 140 mm. East Champaran recorded 139 mm, Rohtas 85 mm, Gaya 67 mm, and Siwan 60 mm. Despite the recent activity, the overall monsoon season in Bihar has so far registered 27 percent less rainfall than normal. Meteorologists, however, remain hopeful that increased activity in the last week of August could help compensate for the shortfall.
Impact on Rivers in Border Areas
The rise in rainfall has also led to an increase in water levels of rivers flowing along Bihar’s border regions. Officials are closely monitoring the situation to assess any potential flood threats.
Weather Forecast for Patna and Other Districts
The IMD has forecast intermittent rain in Patna for the next four days. Light to moderate showers, with occasional spells of heavy rainfall, are expected in the city. South and central districts of Bihar are likely to receive heavy rain until August 26, while northern districts may see light to moderate showers during this period.
