Purnia: A tragic incident in the Kasba police station area of Purnia district has left an entire village in mourning after four children from a single family drowned in a roadside pit filled with rainwater. The pit had been dug for road construction work but was left uncovered by the contractor, making it invisible under the stagnant water.
According to eyewitnesses, two children fell into the pit while playing, and two others rushed in to save them but also became trapped. All four drowned. Another child, who was injured during the incident, is receiving treatment at Purnia Medical College.
The deaths have triggered widespread grief and outrage in Kumhar Toli, where residents have accused the contractor of gross negligence. Local representative Faq Alam said that warnings about unsafe construction practices had been raised earlier, but no corrective action was taken.
The bodies of the children have been sent for post-mortem, and police have begun an inquiry into the case.
