Patna: The Ministry of Railways has approved the final location survey of 12 projects worth more than Rs 1,051 lakh in East Central Railway, aiming to strengthen infrastructure and connectivity across Bihar.
The projects include doubling and bypass lines across key sections such as Sakri-Forbisganj, Samastipur-Hasanpur-Khagaria, Ara-Sasaram, and several bypasses in Muzaffarpur, Fatuha, Patliputra and Bihar Sharif. Among the notable plans is a 10 km new line with a rail bridge over the Ganga at Fatuha-Bidupur, and a 22 km new line from Lalitgram to Birpur near the Nepal border.
Final location surveys (FLS) are a crucial pre-construction step, involving detailed route planning, geotechnical studies, cost estimates, and preparation of work specifications. These surveys ensure projects are technically sound, financially viable, and aligned with the selected routes before construction begins.
Officials said the move reflects the government’s focus on improving regional connectivity, easing traffic pressure on highways, and expanding cross-border infrastructure.
