New Delhi/Patna: The suspense surrounding the seat-sharing arrangement within the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections has finally concluded. The alliance officially announced its formula, revealing a crucial parity arrangement between the two major constituents and a significant allocation for its key allies.
Under the finalized agreement, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (United) – JD (U) will contest 101 seats each.
The remaining 41 seats of the 243-member Assembly have been distributed among the smaller alliance partners:
- LJP (Ram Vilas), led by Chirag Paswan, has been allotted 29 seats.
- Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM)- Secular, led by Jitan Ram Manjhi, will field candidates on 6 seats.
- Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), led by Upendra Kushwaha, has also been allotted 6 seats.
Comparison to 2020 Mandate
The current formula shows a notable recalibration of power within the alliance compared to the 2020 Assembly elections. In 2020, the BJP contested 110 seats (winning 74), and the JD (U) contested 115 seats (winning 43). The current agreement sees both major parties reduce their ticket count to 101, while Chirag Paswan’s party has secured a substantial increase in its electoral footprint.
