Bihar: As nominations for the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 gain pace, Congress candidate Ajit Sharma from Bhagalpur has declared total assets exceeding Rs. 31 crore, including significant holdings in gold, property, and investments.
According to the affidavit filed with his nomination papers on Saturday, Sharma has Rs. 6.5 lakh in cash, while his wife holds Rs. 3.5 lakh. He owns 300 grams of jewellery, and his wife possesses 1.2 kilograms of gold and silver ornaments.
The couple maintains eight bank accounts containing savings, fixed deposits, recurring accounts, and stock investments. Their assets also include funds under Capital Fuel Centre, along with insurance and share market holdings.
Wealth Growth Over Five Years
The total combined value of Sharma’s assets now stands at Rs 3.23 crore, compared to Rs 2.80 crore declared in the previous election — a rise of Rs. 42.5 lakh. His wife’s wealth has also increased from Rs 2.04 crore to Rs. 2.36 crore, marking an additional Rs. 32 lakh over five years.
While their cash reserves have slightly declined, the family’s property and investment portfolios have expanded significantly.
Substantial Real Estate and Liabilities
Sharma’s affidavit details extensive immovable assets, including:
Agricultural land: Rs. 47.5 lakh
Non-agricultural land: Rs. 22.5 crore
Commercial buildings and other assets: Rs. 6.55 crore
Residential property: Rs. 2.25 crore
Together, these total a current market valuation of Rs. 31.78 crore. However, the affidavit also notes that Sharma carries a liability of Rs. 4.40 crore in outstanding loans.
As one of Congress’s key candidates in the state, Ajit Sharma’s declaration highlights the growing wealth gap among political representatives in Bihar, where the 2025 elections are seeing an influx of high-value candidates with business and real estate interests.
