Patna: A controversy has erupted after MP Pappu Yadav claimed he received an income tax notice for distributing money to flood victims in Bihar. The lawmaker alleged that his relief efforts were being treated as a criminal act, and vowed to continue helping those in need.
In a post shared on social media, Yadav wrote, “I have received an Income Tax notice. Helping flood victims by distributing money is being called a crime. If that is so, I will continue to commit this crime again and again for the poor and the suffering.”
The MP said he had distributed financial assistance to families in Maniyari village of Nayagaon East Panchayat, Vaishali district, where several houses and properties were washed away by the Ganga River during the floods.
Questioning the moral responsibility of public representatives, Yadav asked whether he should have remained a “silent spectator” like Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and local MP Chirag Paswan, who, according to him, did not extend similar help to the affected people.
The investigation into the alleged violation has now moved forward, officials said, even as Yadav maintains that his only intention was humanitarian aid, not political gain.
