Patna: A truck carrying tomatoes from Nashik to Hajipur overturned on Bhootnath Road near the Agamkuan police station area early Monday morning, sparking a chaotic rush among local residents to seize the scattered produce.
According to police, the incident occurred around 2am when both wheels of the truck burst simultaneously, causing it to lose balance and overturn. The driver and helper reportedly managed to gather some remaining tomatoes before fleeing the scene. Of the truck’s estimated 15 lakh rupees worth of tomatoes, approximately 2-3 lakh rupees’ worth were taken by residents.
Traffic Station Head Neeraj Kumar Thakur said that police arrived quickly, managing to recover some of the produce. “The truck overturned due to a tyre burst. As soon as it happened, residents rushed to collect the tomatoes, which were also damaged by passing vehicles,” he added.
