New Delhi: Meta has unveiled a new feature pack for WhatsApp aimed at making chats and calls more fluid, as the platform sees increased use during the holiday period.
Among the updates is a new option for missed calls. Users who fail to reach someone on WhatsApp can now leave a voice or video note with a single tap, replacing the need to send a follow-up message or rely on traditional voicemail. Meta said the feature offers a quicker and more intuitive way to communicate when calls go unanswered.
Group voice chats have also been upgraded to allow reactions. Participants can now respond with emojis during a live voice conversation, offering a way to acknowledge comments or react to jokes without interrupting the speaker.
Video calling has received a further enhancement through a feature called Speaker Spotlight. The update automatically highlights the video feed of the person currently speaking, helping participants follow discussions more easily during group calls.
Meta said the changes are intended to make communication and content sharing “smoother than ever”, reflecting how users increasingly rely on WhatsApp for both casual conversations and extended group interactions.
