Patna: Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag met Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary in Patna on Tuesday, holding discussions on the development of sports in the state, with a particular focus on cricket.
The meeting took place at the Deputy Chief Minister’s residence, where Sehwag was welcomed with a shawl and a commemorative memento. Sharing details of the interaction on social media platform X, Chaudhary described Sehwag — popularly known as the “Sultan of Multan” — as one of India’s most explosive and record-breaking batters.

According to Chaudhary, the discussions focused on opportunities and future planning for sports in Bihar, particularly cricket, as the state seeks to expand its sporting ecosystem. The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted government initiatives aimed at encouraging young athletes, including employment opportunities for medal-winning sportspersons under the “Medal Lao, Naukri Pao” scheme.
The meeting has generated interest among sports enthusiasts, with several social media users suggesting that Bihar is preparing to host bigger cricketing events. Some pointed to the upcoming legends’ cricket match, scheduled to be played in the state on January 11, as a sign of growing momentum.
Others used the occasion to raise broader issues related to cricket administration in Bihar, including calls for reforms within the Bihar Cricket Association and demands to decentralise its headquarters to provide greater opportunities for talent beyond the capital.
