Patna: Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD leader Lalu Prasad, has criticised the Bihar government over the ongoing investigation into the death of a student preparing for the NEET exam, describing the probe as “directionless” and raising questions over law enforcement in the state.
The case, which has drawn widespread attention, was transferred to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) following public dissatisfaction with the initial police inquiry. Despite this, opposition leaders and the victim’s family are demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, arguing that the state authorities have failed to act decisively.

Acharya, who is currently based in Singapore, took to social media platform X on Tuesday to express her anger. She alleged that the police and the SIT were deliberately misleading the investigation and accused the state government of trying to “prolong the investigation to let the matter cool down and protect the accused under pressure.”
“Almost two weeks have passed since the incident,” she wrote, “and much has already been established from the evidence and the post-mortem report. Yet new theories are presented by the police every day, creating confusion.”
She also criticised the lack of action against the hostel operators, the local nursing home and hospitals, a doctor, a female police officer, and the Senior Superintendent of Police of Patna. Acharya questioned why the main accused has not yet been arrested.
Her post drew responses from other political figures, including Tejashwi Yadav, who suggested the case was being used as a “planned diversion.”
The comments have put the Bihar government in an uncomfortable position, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Home Minister Samrat Choudhary facing renewed scrutiny from opposition parties over claims of failing to maintain law and order.
