Jamui: In a daring early-morning heist, armed criminals looted cash and jewellery worth around ₹50 lakh from the house of a retired Civil Surgeon in Jamui. The incident took place around 5 am on Monday, barely 15 metres from Giddhaur police station, yet the crime went unnoticed until the family was found unconscious.
According to police and the victims, the robbers broke into the house of Dr Vijayendra Satyarthi and held him, his wife Pushpam Kumari and their son Dr Vikram Satyarthi hostage at gunpoint. The criminals allegedly injected them with sedatives to render them unconscious before carrying out the robbery.
After receiving information, police rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area and began scanning CCTV footage from nearby cameras. All three victims were admitted to Jamui Sadar Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
How the Crime Unfolded
Dr Vijayendra Satyarthi said he was asleep when one of the robbers climbed onto his chest and pressed a revolver against his face. “They injected something into me and I lost consciousness. After that, they also gave injections to my wife and son,” he said.
Pushpam Kumari said that around 5.30 am, when she stepped out of her room, she saw two unknown men standing near the downstairs room. “When I asked who they were, they didn’t answer. One of them gagged me, and when I tried to raise an alarm, the other pushed a revolver into my mouth and threatened to shoot,” she said.
She added that the criminals claimed they had a contract to kill the doctor and demanded to know where the cash and jewellery were kept. “They said if we didn’t tell them, they would shoot my husband. After asking about the money, one of them forcibly injected me and I became unconscious,” she said.
Their son, Dr Vikram Satyarthi, said he was in the bathroom when he heard his mother scream. “I rushed out and saw five masked men pointing guns at my parents. When I tried to help my mother, they caught me, tied my hands and took me to another room. They looted all the jewellery from my wedding and then injected me too,” he said.
Police Investigation Underway
Sub-Inspector Jayprakash Singh of Giddhaur police station said all family members are stable and being treated at the hospital. “We are investigating the case. CCTV footage from the area is being examined. The criminals will be arrested soon,” he said.
The robbery has raised serious questions about security, especially as it occurred just steps away from a police station. Police said special teams have been formed to track down the accused.
