Patna: Bihar will introduce artificial intelligence (AI) education across all state-run technical institutions from the upcoming academic session, the education minister has announced, as the assembly approved a Rs 60,204 crore budget for the department for 2026-27.
Replying to the debate on the education budget in the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, education minister Sunil Kumar said AI courses would begin in all 38 government engineering colleges and 46 polytechnic institutes in the state.
“With state-of-the-art technical education, students of Bihar will no longer be left behind. The future belongs to artificial intelligence,” the minister said during his address.
The budget – amounting to Rs 60,204 crore, 60 lakh and 95 thousand – was passed after a debate lasting more than two hours. While members from both ruling and opposition parties participated in the discussion, opposition legislators boycotted the government’s final reply. The budget was cleared by the Speaker, Dr Prem Kumar, following the minister’s response.
Focus on teacher recruitment and salaries
Kumar said more than 5.87 lakh teachers are currently employed across over 78,000 government schools in Bihar. He maintained that there were no delays in salary disbursement and that payments were being made through direct benefit transfer (DBT) before the fifth of every month.
The government also plans to complete the recruitment of more than 52,000 teachers in government schools. This includes over 7,000 special educators for children with disabilities and approximately 45,000 general teaching posts.
A requisition for these appointments has been sent to the Bihar Public Service Commission, which will conduct the selection process.
In addition, the state will appoint a School Development Officer in each district to monitor school infrastructure and academic progress. A total of 38 posts have been created and approved, with recruitment to be carried out through the same commission.
The government said the combined measures – expansion of AI education, large-scale teacher recruitment and streamlined salary payments – aim to strengthen both technical and school education in the state and align Bihar’s education system with emerging technological demands.
