Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha from the Bihar legislative assembly, marking a significant political development in the state.
Nitish submitted his nomination papers alongside several National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates, including Bharatiya Janata Party national president Nitin nabin, JD(U) leader Ramnath Thakur, Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha and BJP leader Shivesh Kumar. Union home minister Amit Shah was present in Patna during the nomination process.

Before filing his nomination, Nitish confirmed his intention to enter the Upper House through a post on X, describing it as a long-standing aspiration in his political career.
“Since I began my parliamentary career, I have had a desire to become a member of both houses of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and both houses of Parliament. In line with this, I aspire to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in this election. I will support the new government of Bihar,” Nitish wrote.

Tejashwi claimed that the ruling party had followed a strategy similar to political developments in Maharashtra, where leadership changes occurred after internal realignments within allied parties.
“The BJP has implemented the Maharashtra model in Bihar. They have pressured Nitish Kumar so much that he is now compelled to step down,” Tejashwi said, adding that the BJP had a history of weakening its political allies.
Nitish Kumar’s Rajya Sabha bid has intensified speculation about a possible leadership transition in Bihar, where he has served as chief minister for nearly two decades across multiple terms.
