Patna: Janata Dal (United) MLA from Mokama, Anant Singh, has been granted bail by the Patna High Court in connection with the murder of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Dularchand Yadav. Singh is expected to be released from jail on Friday, nearly four months after his arrest in the case.

Dularchand Yadav was killed on October 30, 2025, in Mokama Tal area of Patna district. Following the incident, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma arrested Anant Singh from his Mokama residence late on the night of November 1.

Singh had earlier indicated that he would soon secure his release. On March 16, while casting his vote in the Rajya Sabha elections, he told reporters that he expected to come out of jail shortly.

Celebrations broke out in Singh’s native village Nadwan after news of the bail order reached his supporters. People burst firecrackers, distributed sweets, and applied colours and gulal to each other, describing the celebrations as akin to celebrating both Holi and Diwali together. Supporters were also seen cleaning Singh’s Land Cruiser SUV, reportedly worth around Rs 3 crore, parked at his residence.

Abhishek Kumar, a supporter of the MLA, claimed that Singh had been falsely implicated in the case. “The MLA has been framed and has nothing to do with this incident. I am going to arrange the bail bond. He will walk out of jail tomorrow, and people are eagerly waiting for his return,” he said.

During the bail hearing in the Patna High Court, Singh’s lawyer presented several arguments in his defence. The counsel told the court that Singh had been accused of shooting Dularchand Yadav in the heel of his left foot. However, the post-mortem report reportedly stated that the primary cause of death was assault with sticks and being run over by a vehicle.

The defence also argued that statements of police personnel present at the scene did not mention that Singh had fired any gunshots. Another point raised was that the case was registered based on the statement of Dularchand’s grandson, who, in his first phone call to his father, reportedly informed him that his grandfather had died but did not initially state that it was a murder.

The lawyer further submitted that Singh, being a prominent political figure, often faces allegations due to his political stature.

According to police, Dularchand Yadav was killed during an election campaign event on October 30 while campaigning for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi. After the incident, multiple cases were registered.

Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma had earlier confirmed that four FIRs were filed in connection with the case. The first complaint was lodged at Bhadaur police station by Dularchand’s grandson Neeraj Kumar. Another case was filed by Anant Singh’s supporter Jitendra Kumar, while a third was registered by the police based on their own statement.

The post-mortem report indicated several severe injuries on Yadav’s body. Doctors found deep wounds and signs of heavy internal bleeding, with torn lungs and multiple broken ribs. Injury marks were also noted near the vertebra on the right side of the spine. Bruises and wounds were found on the head, knees, ankles, and back, along with a gunshot injury near the right leg.

The case had also drawn attention after reports that, two days before the murder, Dularchand Yadav had allegedly made controversial remarks about Anant Singh’s wife.

Meanwhile, Singh has recently announced that he will not contest the next Assembly election. Speaking to the media after casting his vote in the Rajya Sabha polls, he said he would not contest elections if Chief Minister Nitish Kumar does not remain in politics. He added that the decision on the next chief minister would be taken by Nitish Kumar.
