Nawada: The district administration in Bihar’s Nawada has identified land for the proposed establishment of a sugar mill in Warisaliganj block, raising hopes among farmers and local representatives for a boost to the region’s economy.
According to officials, about 102 acres and 7 decimals of land have been identified for the project in Makhanpur mouza under Warisaliganj. The land identification report was submitted to Nawada District Magistrate Ravi Prakash by the Warisaliganj Circle Officer on February 28 through letter number 240.
After receiving the report, the district magistrate forwarded the proposal and related documents to the Additional Chief Secretary of the state’s Sugarcane Industry Department for further approval.
Officials said the identified land falls under Thana number 474 and includes both government and private holdings. Of the total area, around 12 acres and 5 decimals belong to private landowners, while the rest consists of government land classified under “Anabad Bihar Sarkar” and “Anabad Sarvasadharan” categories.
The district administration has sent the complete set of documents to the state government, including detailed forms, trace maps, and other necessary records. If the proposal receives approval, it could pave the way for the establishment of a new sugar mill in Warisaliganj.
Local representatives and farmers have long been demanding the revival or establishment of a sugar mill in the area, saying it would benefit sugarcane growers and strengthen the local economy.
The development comes amid renewed focus by the Bihar government on expanding the sugar industry in the state. During his Samriddhi Yatra on Wednesday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar spoke about plans to open new sugar mills and announced several initiatives aimed at economic growth.
Earlier, the state government had also discussed the establishment of new sugar mills under Resolution No. 1587 dated December 16, 2025, issued by the Cabinet Secretariat Department. Following this, Additional Chief Secretary of the Sugarcane Industry Department K. Senthil Kumar had written to Nawada District Magistrate Ravi Prakash, informing him about the government’s intent to explore the possibility of setting up a sugar mill in the district.
The state government had asked the district administration to identify around 100 acres of land for the project. Acting on the directive, the Nawada DM on February 5, 2026, instructed the Warisaliganj Circle Officer to identify suitable government or private land and submit a report within a week.
The circle officer subsequently submitted the report identifying the required land, after which the district administration forwarded the documents to the Sugarcane Industry Department for further consideration. If approved, the proposed sugar mill is expected to provide significant support to farmers in Nawada and nearby regions.
